The Academic Year begins every September the 1st and ends on August the 31st of the next civil year. The educational programme is organized around two semesters (Winter & Spring) with a teaching period of 13 weeks followed by an examination period of about max 4 weeks.
Winter Semester courses start in October and Spring Semester courses mid-February.
The start dates of each semester are stated by decision before the beginning of the academic year.
The Christmas & New Year Break begins on December the 24th and ends on January the 6th (Epiphany Holiday). The Easter Break consists of two weeks related each year with the Easter celebration according to the Greek Orthodox calendar.
- Winter Semester courses are examined during the exam period January-February.
- Spring semester courses are examined during the exam period of June.
The semesters’ start & end date may differ for each Department.

Neither courses nor exams are held in August, the month of summer holidays.
Public holidays & days without lessons during the Winter & Spring Semesters are:
- Christmas Holidays: December 24 to January 7
- Carnival Holidays: Clean Monday (Start of Lent)
- March 25th National celebration
- Easter Holidays: It begins on the Monday of the week preceding Easter Sunday (Holy week) and ends on the Friday of the week following Easter Sunday.
- May Day celebration as no working day might be postponed if it coincides with Easter Sunday, Easter Monday or some day of the Holy week.
- Pentecost /Holy Spirit Monday
- October 28: National celebration
